"You must be the change
you wish to see in the world."
Mahatma Gandhi

"Injustice anywhere
is a threat to justice everywhere."
Martin Luther King
The purpose of Brophy's Office of Faith
and Justice can best be summarized by the Foundations document
published by the Jesuits in 1994. That document states that
the success of a Jesuit school's educational ministry will be judged
in
"...how well it enables men
to hear the message of hope contained in the Gospel, to base their
love and service of God upon this message, to achieve a vital and
personal relationship with Christ, and to share the Gospel's realistic
view of the human condition which recognizes the fact of evil and
personal sin while affirming hope."
The Office of Faith and Justice works
to encourage and empower the Brophy community to achieve this "relationship
with Christ" both through the transforming power of prayer
as well as by becoming involved in service to those in need on
school-wide, local, and global levels.
Pedro Arrupe, SJ, a former Superior
General of the Society of Jesus, tells us:
"Nothing is more practical than
finding God, that is, than falling in love in a quite absolute,
final way. What you are in love with, what seizes your imagination
will affect everything. It will decide what will get you out of
bed in the mornings, what you will do with your evenings, how you
spend your weekends, what you read, who you know, what breaks your
heart, and what amazes you with joy and gratitude. Fall in love,
stay in love, and it will decide everything." --Pedro Arrupe,
SJ.
The goal of this office is to assist
the Brophy community in 'falling in love in a quite absolute way'
by working for the Magis and seeing God in all things.
