Brophy Donation
Campaigns |
|
As part of its effort to connect the Brophy student body
with the local, national, and global communities, Brophy's
Office of Faith and Justice oversees a variety of donation
campaigns throughout the year on campus to benefit targeted
communities in need. By far the three largest are the
Thanksgiving "Give 'em the Bird" drive, the Holiday
E.L.F. drive (Extending Love to Families), and the Spring
Lenten drive. These campaigns attempt to raise funds
and/or food items to assist individuals or organizations that
have a past or present relationship to Brophy. |
| Thanksgiving Turkey
Drive

-
Three weeks in November
-
Class competition (9th, 10th, 11th,
12th grades)
-
Beneficiaries: St. Mary's Food Bank
and St. Vincent De Paul Foundation. Brophy has
for a long time sent its Key Club and National Honor
Society members to volunteer at St. Mary's Food Bank.
Also, many Brophy students have worked at St. Vincent
Depaul as their Junior Justice Project site, and every
Brophy sophomore will spend an entire day at St. Vincent
Depaul each year as part of the Soph Breakaway program.
- Money was also sent to Bonito Oriental, a parish in
Honduras, and the Catholic Relief Services Agriculture
Program.
-
Brophy also donates funds from the Turkey Drive to rural
communities in El Salvador to support sustainable development
projects there. Beginning in 2004, students from Brophy have gone
on the El Salvador Immersion Trip in July with Mr. Time Broyles. In El Salvador our students learn the culture, the stories, and the lives of the people in villages around the country. .

In addition to the above donation campaigns run by
the OFJ, various clubs on campus conduct their own campaigns to
raise money or materials for those in need. The Calculus Club,
moderated by Mr. Whitehead, sells donuts 2 mornings per week to
raise money for families in need, and makes a substantial donation
to the Turkey drive each year. Furthermore, Pax Christi and
other clubs typically organize donation campaigns throughout the
course of the year to benefit groups in need.
